NNPP wins two seats in Kano assembly by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Zakariya Ishaq, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as winner of the by-election in the Kura/Garun Malam constituency in Kano.

Shehu Galadanchi, the returning officer, who declared Ishaq as the winner of the poll, said he secured 37,262 votes.

Musa Daurawa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled second with 30,803 votes.

The court of appeal had ordered a rerun election in 20 polling units in the Kura/Garun Malam state constituency in Kano.

The electoral umpire also declared Bello Butu-Butu of the NNPP as the winner of the by-election in Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency.

Ibrahim Suraj, the returning officer, said Butu-Butu polled 31,135 votes to defeat his closest challenger who garnered 25,577 votes.

The court of appeal had also directed the electoral body to conduct a rerun election in 33 polling units in the Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency of Kano.
