The federal government has refuted reports claiming that it ordered the closure of schools nationwide due to insecurity.
There has been a surge in mass abduction of schoolchildren across the north-west and north-central regions with two major incidents last week.
The unsuspecting attacks prompted the federal government to order a temporary closure of 44 of Unity Colleges.
Similarly, the Niger state government closed all primary and secondary schools.

However, there are claims that the government ordered that all schools nationwide should be shut from November 24.
Boriowo Folasade, spokesperson of the ministry of education, said the reports were “false and misleading”.
She noted that the information was “unofficial and unverified”, and did not originate from the federal government or any of the education ministries.

The government cautioned the public to rely solely on verified information released only through its official channels.
“The Federal Ministry of Education hereby informs the general public that a message currently circulating on social media platforms, alleging that schools nationwide have been directed to close from 24th November 2025, is false, misleading, and did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education or any recognised security agency,” the statement reads.
“The public is strongly advised to rely strictly on verified information issued through the following official channels:
“The Federal Ministry of Education, state Governments, and state ministries or education recognised security agencies

“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared.
“Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it in order to curb the spread of misinformation.”
