The country’s daily count of coronavirus infections recorded a major drop on Sunday, with 520 new samples confirmed positive across 18 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new cases in its update for February 14, 2021.

The agency, however, noted that the Sunday report included data from Borno and Ondo states, reported over the last two days.

Ondo was top of the list with 120 new cases, followed by Borno with 41 fresh infections, and Ebonyi with 37.

According to the figures published by the NCDC, Lagos, the epicentre of the pandemic, did not record any new case within the past 24 hours.

But with 53,041 cases, the state still sits at the top of the list with the highest number of confirmed infections.

The country also recorded five new deaths on Sunday, increasing the current fatality toll to 1,752.

However, the daily count of discharged patients dropped to its lowest within the past six weeks, with 439 recoveries recorded in 24 hours.

The last time the single-day tally of discharged patients dropped below 439 was on January 3, when 255 patients were confirmed to have recovered.

While 144 of the recoveries recorded on Sunday were confirmed to be from Rivers state, the total number of discharged patients now stands at 120,838.

A total of 146,184 infections have now been confirmed across the country.
