The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has opened talks with Wema Bank to advance the national identity project, which is designed to instil values and promote attitudinal change among young Nigerians.

According to a statement on Wednesday, NOA said the partnership was made after a strategy meeting between Lanre Issa-Onilu, NOA director-general (DG), and representatives of the bank.

The agency said the collaboration would support its revamped focus on structured value reorientation, anchored on its ‘7-for-7 National Values Charter’.

Speaking at the meeting, Onilu stressed the importance of youth engagement, citing that 76 percent of Nigeria’s population is young.

He also emphasised the importance of corporate organisations supporting peace initiatives, noting that without a peaceful environment, they cannot thrive or operate effectively.

“Previous orientation efforts largely focused on citizens without holding the government to its own responsibilities,” Issa-Onilu said.

“The 7-for-7 Charter corrects that imbalance, providing a social contract that speaks to both sides.”

On their part, Chioma Onuaguluchi and Timileyin Adebanjo, Wema Bank’s representatives, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to youth empowerment and civic development.

They noted that the bank, under the leadership of Moruf Oseni, Wema Bank’s chief executive officer (CEO), remains committed to strengthening national identity through strategic partnerships.

“We see ourselves not just as a financial institution, but as an enabler of societal progress,” Onuaguluchi said.

“This partnership with NOA aligns perfectly with our values and vision for the future.”

NOA said the collaboration between both parties is aimed at advancing peace, civic responsibility, and economic inclusion—paving the way for public-private synergy in national development.
