The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) says it has not shut down operations due to the current widespread flooding.

NLNG made this known in a statement on Friday.

Reports had said the company declared force majeure on shipments from its Bonny Island facility due to the unprecedented level of flooding that affected gas supply.

However, NLNG said none of its assets on Bonny Island or in any of its host communities are impacted by the flood.

“Our attention has been brought to media reports, following the issuance of a statement declaring force majeure on Monday 17th October 2022, that operations at its facilities have been shut down due to flood,” the statement reads.

Therefore, the company clarified some “misinformation on the declaration”.

“The company’s plant is in operation though at a limited capacity, due to reduced gas supply from some of its upstream gas suppliers,” NLNG said.

“None of NLNG’s assets on Bonny Island or in any of its host communities are impacted by the flood. The force majeure is as a consequence of a similar notice by upstream gas suppliers due to the impact of flood in their production facilities.”

According to NLNG, it is working with all critical stakeholders on mitigating the impact on product deliveries.

NLNG added that it would continue “to supply LPG to the domestic market for now from the limited production”.

The gas firm said it would also monitor the situation with upstream gas suppliers, adding that it is evaluating the impact of the flood on its business.

Meanwhile, NLNG had said its output was affected by oil theft and vandalism, adding that it was running at 68 percent of its capacity due to the menace.
