Northern senators to Tinubu: Support for security appreciated — but more needed

The Northern Senators Forum has commended President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of security agencies, but says more needs to be done to tackle the growing insecurity in the region.

Abdulaziz Yar’adua, chairman of the forum, said this in reaction to the recent killing of at least 35 people in Kaura Namoda LGA of Zamfara state.

Gunmen were reported to have abducted residents in the area and killed some of them despite receiving ransom.

Yar’adua said the killings were “heinous” and do not represent the values of the northern region.

“We condemn this heinous act in the strongest possible terms and declare that it does not reflect the values, people, and aspirations of the north,” he said.

“Our region is known for its hospitality, peace, and tranquillity, and such acts of violence only serve to undermine our cherished values.”

He urged security agencies to strengthen collaboration with local vigilantes and improve intelligence gathering to prevent further attacks.

Yar’adua expressed sympathy with the people of Zamfara and offered prayers for the families of the victims.

“We pray that Allah grants the departed souls eternal rest. May their families find solace in the face of this tragedy,” he said.

He acknowledged Tinubu’s ongoing support for the security sector — including funding and mass recruitments — but stressed that increased training and tactical coordination were urgently needed.

“We hope that more training of personnel will be achieved to curb incidents of this kind,” Yar’adua said.
