NPFL match commissioner found dead in hotel room

Barely 24 hours after he coordinated the logistics of the match between Kano Pillars and Ikorodu United, Tanko Nuru, a commissioner in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), was found dead in his hotel room.

According to Idris Malikawa, media officer of Kano Pillars, the autopsy conducted on Nuru, revealed that he died from hypertension.

“He died a natural death. We took him to the hospital this morning and he was confirmed by the medical doctor in charge,” Malikawa told journalists.

“The doctor said he died of hypertension due to high blood pressure.”

Ikorodu United commiserated with the family of the deceased, expressing shock over the development.

“Our heart goes out to the family of Mr Tanko, match commissioner of @pillarsfc vs @FCIkoroduunited whom was found dead in his hotel room,” the club wrote on Twitter.

“Mr Tanko who was the match commissioner yesterday was found dead in his hotel room this morning in Kano.

“Mr Tanko Made sure everything went well in yesterday’s game. Only for him to be found dead in his hotel room. RIP.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has also expressed shock over the incident.
