NPFL: MFM defeat Wikki to close gap on Plateau United

Plateau United suffered a setback in their title quest with a 0-1 away defeat to Niger Tornadoes in Minna on Sunday.

At the Soccer Temple in Agege, Lagos, Stephen Odey’s 40th-minute goal for MFM FC was enough to earn his side the win over visitors Wikki Tourist.

Odey’s 17th goal of the season helped MFM maintain the second position with 49 points, two shy of Plateau United.

In Maiduguri, Samuel Mathias scored El Kanemi’s only goal in the 31st minute. The Warriors are now fourth on the log with 46 points.

Two first half goals from Jamiu Alimi and Junior Lokosa compounded champions Rangers’ woes in Kano.

Enyimba lost 1-0 to hosts FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi while Akwa United defeated Gombe United 3-0 in Uyo.

Akwa United are third on the table with 46 points.

At the Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, Shooting Stars pipped Katsina United 1-0 through Wasiu Jimoh’s goal in the 44th minute.

In other Match Day 29 games, Remo Stars’ poor run persisted with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Lobi Stars in Makurdi, ABS drew 0-0 against Rivers United while Nasarawa United shocked Sunshine Stars 1-0 at home in Ijebu-Ode.
