Plateau United produced a five-star performance to defeat Rivers United 2-0 in Jos.

The Peace Boys made nonsense of the Pride of Rivers in the week 2 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday.

It took only 29 minutes for the home side to take the lead through an excellent free kick from central defender Golbe Elisha. The game was put to bed in the 60th minute by Emeka Umeh.

The Confluence Stadium in Lokoja hosted a thrilling game which saw Niger Tornadoes zoom to the top of the league with a 2-1 win over FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

Solomon James Owello snatched the curtain raiser for the homers before Godwin Obaje took his tally for the season to two goals after scoring the leveller. Sunday Akinmoladun’s strike turned out to be the match winner.

Tornadoes are on top of the log with six points, same with Plateau but have scored more goals than the Peace Boys.

Kano Pillars are third on the standings, making the most of home advantage to record a comfortable 2-0 win over Nasarawa United in the Northern derby.

Junior Lokosa gave Pillars the lead in the first half and Alassan Ibrahim sealed victory with a strike on the hour.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Lobi Stars beat Enugu Rangers 2-1. The Pride of Benue raced to a two-goal lead through Samad Kadiri and Ayo Saka before Chiamaka Madu pulled one back for the Flying Antelopes with six minutes left on the clock.

It was celebration galore in Akure as Sunshine Stars pipped Katsina United 2-1.

Tasiu Lawal cancelled out Abiodun Joseph’s goal while Sikiru Alimi dispatched an 82nd minute spot-kick to hand the Owema Whales maximum points.

Waheed Adebayo’s 51st minute strike made the difference as MFM FC swept up the three valuable points at home to Kwara United.

The Olukoya Boys are now just three points behind Tornadoes and Plateau.

Go-Round FC stunned Akwa United in Omoku to move to the 11th position with a 1-0 win.

Adelani Adeseun got the goal for the reigning NPFL debutants.

Enyimba are winless in two games following a 0-0 draw with Heartland FC in the Oriental derby.

In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors laboured to pip Abia Warriors by a lone goal. The Ochendo Babes frustrated the Desert Warriors but Bello Koformata grabbed the winning goal for the home side.

Meanwhile, Yobe Desert Stars deservedly earned bragging rights against Wikki Tourists with a 2-0 win in the second Northern derby of the day. Ali Aliyu and Philip Asuquo provided the goals.
