NPFL wrap-up: Pillars whip Ifeanyi Ubah but Lobi Stars remain atop

Despite playing with 10 men for 40 minutes, Lobi Stars earned a 1-1 draw against Abia Warriors to stay top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after matchday 15.

While Ndifreke Effiong put Abia Warriors ahead in the first minute of action, Umar Zango rocketed home a long range free kick in the second half to help Lobi Stars share the spoils.

Junior Lokosa’s quickfire second-half double and goals from Nyima Nwanua and Awalu Ali sealed Kano Pillars’ 4-0 drubbing of FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

Sunday Emmanuel was in good scoring form but Sunshine Stars were ultimately left frustrated after being held to a 2-2 draw by Kwara United.

Stephen Alfred opened the scoring for the Harmony Boys before Emmanuel brought the Owena Whales level before halftime.

Emmanuel later put the hosts ahead in the second half, but Stars were forced to settle for a point after Chinedu Sunday headed home from close range.

Rivers United left it until the second half to hurt Heartland courtesy of goals from Emeka Ogbugh and Roland Koffi at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.

A brace from Nojeem Olukokun set the tone for Nasarawa United to beat Katsina United 2-1.

Elsewhere, Ibrahim Ajani’s double helped Enugu Rangers to a 3-0 thrashing of Yobe Desert Stars. Bright Silas was on target for the Flying Antelopes.
