The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended train services along the Port Harcourt–Aba corridor, citing routine maintenance.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Kayode Opeifa, NRC’s managing director, on Friday.
According to the corporation, operations on the route will remain suspended until September 9.
“Port-Harcourt to Aba train services suspended for routine maintenance,” NRC said.

“To resume regular train services on the 9th of September 2025. We regret all inconveniences.”
The suspension comes days after the derailment of a Kaduna-bound train.
The train, which was travelling from Abuja to Kaduna, veered off the track as several coaches tumbled.

The accident occurred between Kubwa and Asham stations.
On August 27, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) said six persons sustained injuries after the train derailed.
The NSIB, however, said no fatality was recorded during the incident, adding that the bureau will investigate the mishap to prevent a recurrence.
