NSCDC arrests ‘mentally ill’ man for ‘stabbing his father to death’ in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano state has arrested Alkasim Ya’u, a 25-year-old man, for allegedly stabbing his father to death.

The alleged homicide is said to have occurred at Tudun Yola ‘C’ area of Gwale LGA of Kano.

Speaking with NAN on Sunday, Mohammed Falala, NSCDC corps commandant in Kano, said the incident happened on Friday at about 2:00 pm at the residence of one Salisu Bala, believed to be the brother of the deceased.

The commandant said the deceased took the suspect to a psychiatric facility for treatment.

“The deceased father, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, brought his mentally ill son, Alkasim Ya’u, to a Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau, for medical treatment, where they booked to see a medical doctor on Saturday January 6,” Falala said.

“Our investigation revealed that Alkasim became mentally ill due to his engagement in hard drugs activities.

“On their arrival at Tudun Yola, the ill son took a sharp object and injured the father, until the intervention of the NSCDC operatives attached to the area who took the victim to hospital and arrested the suspect.”

The commandant said the family was making arrangements to return the corpse to Katsina for funeral, while the suspect and the exhibit were handed over to Rijiyar Zaki divisional police office for further investigation.
