NSCDC arrests two for ‘vandalism’, recovers 778 railway sleepers in Niger

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says two persons have been arrested for vandalising railway sleepers in Niger state.

According to NAN, Haruna Zurmi, NSCDC commandant in Niger, disclosed this on Tuesday in Minna, the state capital.

Zurmi said the two suspects were arrested in Mokwa LGA with 778 railway sleepers while on their way to Lagos state.

“On November 10, we arrested a driver with his conductor in Mokwa, and a truck with registration number ESA 962 XJ containing 778 pieces of rail sleepers heading to Lagos from Gboko local government area of Benue state,” he said.

“They are currently being investigated and effort is ongoing to arrest the owner of the truck and all those involved in the illegal act.

“We shall leave no stone unturned in carrying out our constitutional mandate of protecting public facilities from criminals.

“I want to use this opportunity to warn that anyone caught vandalising public property will be decisively dealt with.

“We shall continue to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a crime-free environment in our area of supervision.”

Speaking on the vandalism of public facilities by criminals, he warned citizens to stop engaging in the act.

He also urged residents of the state to cooperate with the corps by reporting suspicious movements within their environments for prompt security intervention.
