The Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has said that it would organise a debate for the 17 governorship candidates contesting the February 28 election.

Deji Elumoye, the chairman of NUJ in Lagos disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said that the debate was part of its efforts to bring good governance, excellence and accountability to bear on the contestants.

The statement further said the event tagged ‘Lagos Decides 2015’, was organised in collaboration with Lagos Television (LTV) and would be transmitted live on January 28 and January 29.

It said that eight candidates would feature on the first day and nine on the second day.

The Union disclosed that the candidates would field questions from seasoned panelists, senior journalists, civil society groups and professional bodies.

“Questions will also be fielded from students, market men and women, artisans, commercial drivers, as well as civil servants, among others,” the statement read.

“The aim of the live debate is to ensure that Lagosians, irrespective of status, are given the opportunity to ask questions from the candidates on how they want to move Lagos forward.”

The union gave an assurance that adequate security would be provided during the two-day live debate.
