The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products (ADITOP) has dissociated itself from the intended strike by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

In an interview on Monday with NAN, Lawan Dan-Zaki, national president of ADITOP, described the proposed strike as unnecessary, stressing its support for Dangote’s new petroleum products distribution initiative.

On September 5, NUPENG said workers will down their tools and start sourcing for alternative employment from Monday.

However, Dan-Zaki said ADITOP would continue transporting petroleum products across the country.

According to the association, Dangote refinery’s reforms will not only sanitise the sector but also enhance stability in supply and distribution, while creating jobs and equipping millions of unemployed Nigerians with new skills.

“We, members of ADITOP, hereby inform the General Public and the Federal Government that we dissociate ourselves from any intended strike or disruption by NUPENG and its cohorts,” he said.

“We intend to continue moving petroleum products across the country without fear of molestation.

“ADITOP is in support of any petroleum products distribution scheme aimed at distributing products to the end users seamlessly and promoting economic development.”

The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) and the Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association (DTCDA) had also said they would not join the planned strike by NUPENG.

On September 7, the federal government appealed to NUPENG to suspend its planned nationwide strike, while scheduling a reconciliation meeting for Monday.
