Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have emerged as top winners in the 12th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship (ANUDC).
In a statement on Saturday, Ahmed Lawal, the ANUDC general secretary, said the 12th edition hosted by UNILORIN from August 24 to 30, 2025, brought together over 25 universities.
Lawal said the event had 350 delegates across Nigeria for intense competitions in debate, public speaking, and quiz, alongside training sessions, social and networking opportunities.
OAU emerged champion of the mainstream debate, with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) coming in first runner-up and Veritas University, Abuja taking the second runner-up position.

In the novice stream debate, UNILORIN was the champion, followed by the University of Nigeria (UNN) as first runner-up and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) as second runner-up.
Olafisoye Alexander from UNILORIN was the best speaker, followed by Offiah Kenneth from FUTO in second place and Tivlumun Alexander from UNILORIN in third place.
UNILORIN also won the public speaking contest, followed by OAU in second place and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin in third place.

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO) emerged champion of the ultimate Naija quiz challenge, followed by Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as first runner-up and UNILORIN as second runner-up.
“At the colourful closing and awards ceremony, the president of ANUDC Abdul-Lateef Owoade appreciated the University of Ilorin for hosting, thanked volunteers for their tireless efforts, and encouraged universities to invest in coaching, mentorship, and modest representation,” Lawal said.
He further said Rivers State University was announced as the next host of ANUDC in 2026, while bids are now open for 2027.
