Former President Olusegun Obasanjo hosted the national working committee (NWC) of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The PDP faction visited the former president on Saturday, and Kabiru Turaki led the delegation.
Other members of the delegation include Muazu Aliyu, former Niger governor; Jonah Jang, former governor of Plateau; Adolphus Wabara, former senate president, and many more.
Speaking during the visitation, Obasanjo commended the faction’s effort, adding that its members should “soldier on”.

The former president also urged the faction to remain steadfast in instilling discipline in the party, saying that “anybody who wants to belong to a political party must adhere strictly to its rules and regulations”.
BACKGROUND
The Balkanisation of the PDP became official recently as the tenure of the PDP NWC elected in October 2021 drew to a close.

In November, a faction of the party backed by the PDP governors, including Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo, held a convention and elected new NWC members, with Turaki as chairman.
During the convention, the PDP expelled Wike and his allies — Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Oyo; Anyanwu, Bature, Ajibade, Mao Ohuabunwa, former lawmaker; Austin Nwachukwu, former Imo state PDP chairman; Amah Nnanna Abraham, former Abia state PDP chairman; Dan Orbih, former national vice-chairman (south-south), and Turnah George.
The Wike group rejected the expulsion and has formed a parallel NWC, board of trustees (BoT), and NEC.
In a tit-for-tat, the Wike faction also expelled members of the Makinde faction.
