Walid Jibrin, secretary, board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, says Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigerian president, announced his exit from the ruling party in a far from dignifying manner.

Addressing state house correspondents after a meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday, Jibrin said Obasanjo ought to have followed due process in taking the decision.

The former president had handed over the card to Sunmonu Oladunjoye, chairman of his ward in Abeokuta, instructing him to tear it into pieces.

Jibrin condemned the act in strong terms.

“What is it if he wants to leave, must he go to the market place?” he asked.

“He should have behaved responsibly and maturely. He has access to the president, he has all the podium to do so, he has all the privileges to go and discuss with the president. Do others behave that way?

“Should Obasanjo, a former head of state, behave that way? Even if you want to take a decision like that, will you do it that way? As a responsible person, will you do it that way? There other past presidents in Nigeria, have they behaved that way.”
