Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, has named the newly constructed world class shelter for victims of human trafficking and irregular migration in Benin city, after Daisy Danjuma, a former senator.

According to Crusoe Osagie, the governor’s spokesman, the action was in recognition of her immense contribution to the state government’s efforts in empowering the downtrodden in society.

He described Danjuma as a trailblazer in politics, governance and an unrelenting champion of good governance.

“She is a role model to our youths, especially young girls and women. Her sagacity, her heart of gold, her bold and courageous foray into politics and the resulting impact she made as Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District in the Senate, are ready points of reference by young people and adults, who are determined to breakthrough some man-made barriers and attain similar heights,” Osagie said.

“In addition, Senator Danjuma has extended succor to millions of disadvantage people through several personal initiatives and in partnership with the TY Danjuma Foundation, which is committed to enhancing the quality of life of Nigerians by supporting initiatives that improve access to health and educational opportunities.

“By naming this facility after Senator Danjuma, the Edo State Government is making a strong statement that victims of human trafficking and illegal migration can overcome their current situation and challenges and become whatever they wish to become.”

The world class shelter for victims of human trafficking and irregular migration stands on 1.9 hectare of land.

It will handle cases of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and minor medical conditions and will be manned by trained medical personnel and trained counsellors,” Osagie said.
