The Obidient movement has denied reports claiming a dispute over the composition of its Lagos state coordinating council.
A communiqué issued by Seyi Sowunmi, south-west coordinator of the Obidient movement, said the report published by some online outlets was “false and misleading”.
An online publication had alleged that some grassroots figures within the Lagos chapter of the movement accused Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator, of endorsing a controversial list for the state leadership council.
They were said to have rejected the circulating list for the state coordinating council, claiming it was compiled without their involvement by individuals reportedly linked to Tanko.

However, Sowunmi said the south-west advisory council ensured that consultations were held with stakeholders, including elected representatives, 2023 aspirants, financiers, and various Obidient support groups across all local government areas in Lagos.
He said the final list, released on October 1, was the result of “five months of careful selection to identify the most capable, articulate, and dedicated members” of the movement.
“At no point did the national leadership, including Dr. Tanko, take part in producing this list,” the communiqué reads.

“The southwest council alone was responsible for compiling and transmitting the list to the national council for ratification.”
Sowunmi added that while a few LGAs were not fully represented in the initial draft, ongoing meetings were being held to resolve all outstanding concerns.
He described the publications as “deliberate attempts to sow division”, and urged members to disregard distractions and remain focused on building a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our goal remains to deepen inclusivity and uphold the 5Cs creed of the Obidient Movement,” he said.
