The Obidient Movement has commended its members across Nigeria for organising “peaceful rallies” to celebrate the 64th birthday of Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the movement, said the celebrations across the 36 states reflected “passion, discipline, and commitment” to the shared goal of building a new Nigeria.

Tanko praised members of the movement for mobilising and funding the events without external support, noting that such efforts showed the organic strength and unity of the group.

“The outpouring of love, support, and enthusiasm for Peter Obi’s leadership, especially out of pocket, using your own resources, is a testament to the enduring impact of his vision, integrity, and selfless service to our nation,” the statement reads.

He said the events were not only symbolic but also a reflection of Nigerians’ growing appetite for accountable and people-driven leadership.

He added that the activities were made possible by volunteers and state coordinators who gave their time and personal funds to organise peaceful processions across the country.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we also acknowledge the unwavering dedication of our state coordinators, volunteers, and supporters who worked tirelessly using their own hard-earned resources to make these celebrations all over the country a resounding success,” he said.

He added that the group remains fully aligned with Obi’s leadership vision and would continue to support his efforts to transform governance in Nigeria.

“To HE Peter Obi, we express our deepest gratitude for your leadership, mentorship, and inspiration,” Tanko said.

“Your unwavering commitment to the values of integrity, accountability, and people-centred governance has ignited a new sense of hope and purpose in our nation.”

He said the peaceful nature of the celebrations was a further demonstration of the movement’s resolve to push for political and democratic reforms through nonviolent means.

“As we look to the future, we remain resolute in our determination to support your vision for a new Nigeria,” he said.

“We will continue to mobilise, advocate, and work tirelessly to ensure that your leadership and legacy inspire a brighter future for all Nigerians.”
