Obtaining Indian visa is now ‘without tears’

Ambassador Ghanashyam Rangaiah, the newly-appointed Indian high commissioner to Nigeria, on Tuesday announced new measures that would enable Nigerians obtain visas to India with ease.

The envoy, who urged Nigerians to desist from patronising agents and visa racketeers, said that the commission was working hard at making Nigerians to personally visit its website to make their applications for visa.

“We have decided that Nigerians wishing to visit India for any purpose should personally visit our website to make their applications,” he said.

“We now want such applicants to personally, after applying through our website, come directly to the High Commission, without having to use agents or touts.

“We no longer want Nigerians to wait for any facilitator or pay heavily to agents before getting visas to India.”

Rangaiah also said that Nigerian students who have been offered admissions in Indian Colleges and Universities would have to present original copies of their admission letters to the commission before being issued visas.

According to him, the decision is meant to prevent forging of documents by those who are desperate to visit India.
