Liverpool confirm Arne Slot as Klopp’s replacement

Liverpool have announced Arne Slot as their new manager to replace outgoing Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside club confirmed the arrival of the new head coach in a statement on its website on Monday.

Slot is expected to begin work at Anfield on June 1 and is subject to obtaining a work permit.

“Liverpool Football Club can announce Arne Slot has agreed a deal to become the club’s new head coach, formally taking up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit,” the statement reads.

“The 45-year-old will join the Reds from Feyenoord ahead of the 2024-25 season after a deal was reached with the Eredivisie club for his services.

“Slot will replace Jürgen Klopp at the helm following his decision to step down from the post at the end of the current campaign.

According to BBC Sports, Slot’s service was secured following a £9.4 million compensation to Feyenoord, where he spent three years. He will also sign a three-year contract at Anfield.

Slot will also become Liverpool’s first-ever Dutch manager in the club’s history.

The 45-year-old will arrive at Liverpool with a reputation of one Dutch title and manager of the season awards in two of his three years at the Eredivisie club.

He also won the Dutch Cup for the Rotterdam-based side this season before his impending switch to England.

Klopp managed his last game at Anfield on Sunday when Liverpool defeated ten-men Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0. The German was given a befitting farewell with guards of honours, songs, and heartfelt messages.
