The Ogun state government has allocated 130 hectares of land along the Epe/Mojoda expressway in Ijebu-Ode to the federal government for the proposed Ijebu-Ode port terminal project.
According to a statement on Friday, the development follows a request from Gboyega Oyetola, minister of marine and blue economy, in a letter dated June 26, 2025, and addressed to Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state governor.
“According to analysts, the project will boost national trade, economic growth and development; ease the congestion around Lagos port system, increase the national GDP, and strengthen Ogun State industrial hub initiative of the present administration,” the statement said.
“It will also serve as cargo consolidation and distribution hub for the South-West region, enhance competitiveness and facilitate trade in Ogun State; promote serenity by adding aesthetic value to the immediate neighbourhood.

“As the proposed dry port is located within the Economic Development Cluster of Ijebu Ode, it further enhances the competitiveness of the cluster through an effective, efficient logistics and transportation network that will further reduce the cost of production thereby enhancing the attractiveness of the location to industrial investment.”
‘INLAND DRY PORT, GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WILL TRANSFORM STATE’
Speaking on the approval, the governor said the Ijebu-Ode inland dry port and the Gateway International Airport are vital drivers of industrialisation and regional competitiveness.

“Together, they will transform Ogun State into a logistics and economic powerhouse, creating prosperity for our people and opportunities for Nigeria at large,” Abiodun said.
The statement added that with the Kajola inland dry port designated for the Ogun central industrial cluster and the Ijebu-Ode inland dry port for the eastern corridor, the state is strategically balancing industrial growth across its three senatorial districts to promote equity and sustainable development.
According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state, and Moniya, Oyo state in January, as part of efforts to ease congestion at Lagos seaports, address persistent delays, and strengthen the nation’s economy.
The state government said Oyetola announced the approval in Abuja during the 2025 budget defence before the senate committee on marine transport and the house of representatives committees on ports and harbour, maritime safety, education and administration, inland waterways, and shipping services.

The minister, according to the statement, said the inland dry ports, once completed, would create jobs for youths in Ogun, Oyo, and other states across the south-west.
Oyetola added that the projects are being fast-tracked to ease pressure on the western port system, with design consultancies already in progress.
