Less than a week after governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola, reverted the tuition fees of the Lagos State University (LASU) to old rates, his Ogun state counterpart, Senator Ibikunle Amosun (pictured), has approved a reduction in the fees of virtually all the state-owned tertiary institutions.
The reduction, which will take effect from the 2014/2015 academic session, abolishes the preference of indigenes paying less than their colleagues who are non-indigenes, as all the students are expected to pay the same amount.
The decision was arrived at during a stakeholders meeting involving the government, leadership of the various students unions and principal officers of the respective institutions.
Addressing newsmen at the press centre, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta Tuesday evening, Mr. Segun Odubela, the state commissioner for education, science and technology, stated that the government would always protect the interest of the students as they are future leaders of the nation.
The commissioner also revealed that the government has also donated 13 buses to the students union government of all state and federal institutions in the state, adding that the Ogun state National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), will not be left out.
