Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), says the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari came as a shock to her.

Buhari died in a hospital in the United Kingdom on Sunday.

In a post on her verified X handle on Sunday, Okonjo-Iweala said she had sent him a get well message shortly before learning of his passing.

She expressed deep sadness over the former president’s death, saying she had no idea his condition was that critical.
