Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has implored women to take on stronger roles in the fight against corruption and cybercrime.

Olukoyede made the call at the “You Against Crime Festival” organised by You Against Crime International (YACI) in Abuja.

Represented by Aisha Muhammed, assistant commander and head of the EFCC’s enlightenment and reorientation unit, Olukoyede noted that women, particularly mothers, are strategically positioned to influence societal values and curb criminal tendencies from the family level.

“Mothers and women play crucial roles in everything that we do, and they can do the same in the fight against corruption and cybercrime,” he said.

Olukoyede noted that the EFCC has established ‘integrity clubs’ in primary and secondary schools, and ‘zero tolerance clubs’ in tertiary institutions to instil anti-corruption values in young people.

He also highlighted the commission’s Women Against Corruption initiative as a platform for mobilising mothers and women in the fight.

On his part, Tayo Folorunsho, president of YACI, explained that the festival was designed to seek practical solutions to rising crime rates and to foster collaboration between security agencies, students, and young people.

“We can’t do it on our own. We are here to dialogue on how to proffer solutions and not complain any longer,” Florunsho said, urging stakeholders to support anti-crime efforts.”
