Oluremi Tinubu awards N50m grant to women farmers, PWDs in south-east

Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady, has awarded N50 million to 100 women farmers to encourage agricultural productivity in the south-east.

Oluremi announced the grant on Wednesday during the flag-off of the renewed hope initiative (RHI), women agricultural support programme (RHI-WASP) held in the south-east.

The first lady said 100 selected women farmers and 100 persons with disabilities (PWDs) would also receive farming inputs.

She listed some of the agricultural inputs to be distributed as “fingerlings, fish and poultry feeds, three weeks old birds, bundles of improved cassava stems and bags of fertilizers”.

Oluremi the RHI-WASP collaborated with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to supply agricultural inputs and training for women farmers across the nation.

She said the programme would be executed across all states in the country, adding that the government is committed to ensuring inclusivity at all levels.

“The Renewed Hope initiative’s commitment to supporting women farmers aligns with the broader national agenda to strengthen the agricultural sector,” she said.

“His excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s administration recognizes the pivotal role that agriculture plays in achieving sustainable development and ensuring food sufficiency.

“The one hundred women farmers present today will commence their training programme this week while other farmers from other states within the south-east zone will commence their training within their states as scheduled by NALDA officials afterwards and will also receive agricultural inputs from NALDA simultaneously.

“The financial support for the women farmers per state from the Renewed Hope Initiative RHI, is to enhance and encourage productivity while the training from NALDA is to reduce crop waste and promote more efficient production and farming techniques.

“The women farmers got a grant of N500,000.00 each and farm inputs according to their areas of specialization.

“This intervention for women farmers by the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI would be taken around all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria.”
