Folashade Oluwafemiayo
Folashade Oluwafemiayo, the Nigerian athlete, has again broken her world record in the women’s over 86kg para-powerlifting category.
The 40-year-old lifted an incredible 168kg to claim the gold medal at the 2025 World Para-Powerlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday.
China’s Wenjun Zhu finished with the silver while Iran’s Nikoo Rozbahani claimed the bronze.
The victory was Oluwafemiayo’s fourth world title. She had won three consecutive world titles in the 2017 Mexico City World Championships, the 2019 Nur-Sultan World Championship, and the 2021 Tbilisi World Championships.
At the Paris Paralympics, she became the first para-athlete in history to lift 167kg and won gold for Nigeria.
Rita Ferdinard of Nigeria also won gold for Nigeria in the women’s 79kg category on her debut at the World Championship. She had lifted 142 kg in her first attempt, then added six kilos to her second to claim the victory.
Tolulope Ogundolie also won silver for Nigeria in the women’s 41kg category.
