Better known as Omawumi by her fans, Omawumi Megbele, Nigerian singer and songwriter, has aired her opinion on the copyright infringement claims going round the music industry.

Speaking to Pulse Tv, the Warri-born songstress was of the opinion that grievances should be aired and not protected because of being a celebrity.

“If anybody has an issue with anybody, it’s better they just put it out there,” she said.

“It boils down to the reason behind it, our work makes us out there and you can’t make a move without people saying.

If somebody find my trouble and I decide deck the person, it’s valid but because I be artist, I’m supposed to swallow it meanwhile the thing go dey pain me.

“I’m not the right person to be asked that question because to each his own.”

On eradication of copyright disputes, the Belle crooner said: “Do it the right way, I almost fell into that situation myself if not for God and wisdom. It’s really sad.

“There were some songs that I wanted to cover that I found out that it was a defunct label that had the rights to those songs; I couldn’t touch them because I didn’t want someone to wake up tomorrow and ask me for money.

“I allow the small stealing of baseline, one word. We never reach America stage but at that point when we reach there, we will know how to cross.”

The 33-year-old artitste became popular in 2007 after clinching the runner-up position in a reality TV show, West African Idols.
