Omokri to ex-IGP: I accept your challenge to a debate… I hope you won’t chicken out

Reno Omokri, former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, says he is ready to debate Suleiman Abba, former inspector-general of police, over the 2015 presidential election.

The duo has been entangled in a back and forth over Abba’s claim that the police forced Jonathan to concede defeat after losing the poll.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Abba was quoted to have said: “Thank God that in our own case, we forced those who lost elections to accept the results. The Nigeria police forced those who lost elections to accept the outcome.”

Omokri denied the claim and accused the ex-police chief of spreading falsehood.

Abba subsequently challenged Omokri to a debate on the issue, threatening to “open up” on what transpired when he was in office.

In a statement sent to TheCable on Friday, Omokri said he is accepting the challenge and would also sponsor a first class ticket for Abba “to facilitate” the debate.

“I note the boast of Mr Abba that he is a lawyer and his challenge to debate me. I wish to inform Mr Abba that I am also a lawyer with a Masters in Law from an English university and that I accept his challenge to debate me,” the statement read.

“I hereby promise to buy Mr Abba a First Class Ticket to anywhere in the world outside Nigeria to facilitate the debate between him and me.

“I hope that Mr Abba will not chicken out of his own challenge. I look forward to his speedy response.”
