Ondo declares Friday work-free ahead of guber poll

The Ondo government has declared November 15 a work-free day to enable workers and residents to travel to their voting areas for the state’s governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled November 16 to conduct the off-cycle governorship election in Ondo.

O.F. Ayodele, permanent secretary in the office of the head of the service, announced the development in a statement issued on Thursday.

“The 2024 governorship election in Ondo state has been scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission to be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024,” the statement reads.

“To this end, the Ondo state government has declared Friday, November 15, 2024, as a work-free day for public servants in the state to enable them to travel to their various communities to exercise their civic responsibilities.

“All accounting officers are to note the content of this circular and disseminate the same to all staff of their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.”

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of the state, and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Agboola Ajayi, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are the major contenders in the election.
