Ondo guber: Police arrest two for ‘illegal registration’ of APC members

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly conducting illegal registration for members of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) ahead of the governorship primary election in Ondo state.

The APC in Ondo has fixed April 20 for the primary exercise.

Earlier, the Ondo south gubernatorial aspirants, in a statement, raised concerns over the revalidation of the membership register for the primary.

The aspirants said despite contributing N300 million to cover the annual dues of all constituents, many party members were unable to revalidate their cards.

“We have been inundated by reports that a particular aspirant has gone ahead with massive printing of fake party slips, which he has distributed to a lot of persons who are not even our party members,” the Ondo south aspirants said.

In a statement on Thursday, Funmilayo Omisanya, police spokesperson in the state, said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday at the residence of one Ariyo.

“Police personnel from Yaba divisional headquarters led by an assistant superintendent of police visited the house and recovered the following items from the scene,” Omisanya said.

She said the police recovered party registration booklets, a list of names of purported party members of ward 7 Ondo, and 53 passport photographs of different individuals.

Other items recovered include a jotter containing names, two exercise books with names and phone numbers, and two slips of registered forms.

The police spokesperson said the suspects are currently in custody and assisting the command with information to arrest the accomplices.

She said Abayomi Ladipo, commissioner of police in the state, has urged all aspirants to caution their supporters against engaging in illegal activities in the state.
