Vincent Temitope, the Plateau United player who was the victim of the alleged knife attack.
The Nasarawa police command says a suspect has been arrested over the alleged stabbing of Vincent Temitope, Plateau United striker, at the Lafia City stadium.
On Sunday, Plateau United claimed Temitope was struck in the neck by a fan who “held a knife” after the club’s 3-2 away loss to Nasarawa United.
Yaksat Maklek, the club’s director of media operations, said the incident happened when some fans approached Temitope for photos after the game.
He added that the player was rushed to Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, where he was treated and in “stable condition.”

In a chat with TheCable on Monday, Ramhan Nansel, Nasarawa police spokesperson, said the attack on Temitope was “not a stab”.
However, the police spokesperson added that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident and will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.
Plateau United had said it has compiled all the necessary evidence of the incident and will present it to the NPFL for appropriate action.

Last week, players and officials of Ikorodu City needed the intervention of the Nigerian Army operatives before they could exit the stadium in Ibadan after a goalless draw against 3SC.
The away team was locked inside the stadium after some angry home fans were outside waiting.
