One dead as police foil hotel robbery in Abuja

The police command in the federal capital territory (FCT) says it foiled a hotel robbery attempt in Kubwa area of Abuja.

Mariam Yusuf, FCT command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Yusuf explained the police engaged the suspected robbers in a gun battle while on routine patrol, killing one of the suspects who died after sustaining injuries.

“The operatives, on routine patrol, had engaged the robbers in a fierce gun duel, where one of the suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries,” Yusuf said.

“The suspect was later rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.”

According to the spokesperson, “one berratta pistol, three rounds of live ammunition, one silver Mazda space wagon, and number plates” were recovered.

She said the police also arrested a 20-year-old man for murder at Kasuwa-Dere area of Gwagwalada in Abuja.

According to the police spokesperson,  officers from the divisional headquarters in Gwagwalada arrested the suspect after investigation into the murder of an unidentified middle-aged woman.

She said the suspect, who was spotted by another victim, confessed to being a member of a phone-snatching syndicate operating in Gwagwalada area.

Yusuf added that the police had recovered a knife used in stabbing the deceased, as well as a phone that belonged to the woman.

She, however, said the suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
