One dead, two injured as ‘militants’ attack oil firm in Akwa Ibom

One person was killed and two others sustained injuries when suspected militants attacked Universal Energy Resources Ltd (UERL) in Unyenge, Mbo LGA of Akwa Ibom state.

The state police command confirmed the incident on Friday.

Odiko Macdon, the police public relations officer (PPRO) of the Akwa Ibom command, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

“We received a distress call that militants attacked UERL staff at Unyenge in Mbo LGA,” Macdon said.


“We got a report that there was an ambush which led to the death of one person, a driver, while two others were left with injuries.”.

The PPRO said Andrew Amiengheme, the state commissioner of police, has ordered an investigation into the attack.

“As l speak, an investigation is ongoing on the incident,” Macdon added.
