One person is feared dead following the looting of a warehouse containing COVID-19 relief materials in Edo state.

The warehouse is located on the medical store road, Uselu, in Benin city, the capital of Edo.

The person feared dead was said to have been stampeded while attempting to make away with his loot on Saturday.

Earlier, some soldiers had prevented the hoodlums from gaining access to the warehouse. However, they were overrun by the mob.

Many other people also sustained various injuries owing to the rush.

Looting of warehouses where COVID-19 relief materials are kept have occurred across the country with Lagos, Kwara and Cross River recording incidents.

There was an attempt to break into the arts and culture centre in the federal capital territory (FCT) on Saturday.

The arts centre was used to store items such as rice, groundnut oil and cartons of noodles in the height of the pandemic.

This development is coming after citizens protested against harassment and brutality by the police.

In the demonstrations that lasted for over a week, hoodlums hijacked them to unleash violence on citizens.
