One person was reportedly killed on Friday, following a clash said to be between Hausa and Yoruba residents in Sasa area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Houses were also reportedly set ablaze, while properties were destroyed in the clash — the cause of the crisis is not yet known.

Traders in Sasa market, a hub for tomato and pepper sales, were not able to carry out transactions owing to the incident.

Officers of the Oyo state security network, Amotekun, and Operation Burst are said to have been deployed to the scene of the incident.

Efforts to reach Olugbenga Fadeyi, spokesman of the state police command, proved futile as he neither picked calls from TheCable nor responded to a text message.

Also, Olayinka Olayanju, commandant of the state’s Amotekun corps, did not reply to a message sent to his line.

There have been increased instances of attacks in different parts of the state in recent times.

Residents have complained of incidents of armed robbery and kidnapping.

Most recently, the Ibarapa local government area (LGA) of the state witnessed unrest owing to clashes between residents of the area and Fulani herdsmen.
