One killed as police rescue inspector, village chairman from kidnappers in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi police have rescued an inspector attached to the Police Detective College Enugu from kidnappers.

The police also rescued the village chairman of Ngwogwo, Ishiagu, Ivo LGA of Ebonyi.

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the police spokesperson, said the duo were abducted on Sunday.

Onovwakpoyeya said they were rescued unhurt when the force raided the kidnappers’ hideout.

He said one of the abductors was killed in a gun duel and three others were arrested.

“Police operatives swung into action upon receipt of actionable intelligence report and the hideout of the hoodlums situated between Amata Ishiagu in Ebonyi and Lokpanta in Abia was raided,” Onovwakpoyeya said.

“The hoodlums opened fire on sighting the police operatives but were subdued by the superior firepower of the police.

“During the gun duel, one of the hoodlums was neutralised, while three of his gang members were arrested unharmed.”

Onovwakpoyeya added that items recovered from the hoodlums included two AK 47 rifles, one double-barrelled gun, 45 AK 47 live ammunition and 70 live cartridges.
