Police: Vigilante killed, archbishop’s cows rustled in fresh Plateau attack

One person was reportedly killed and nine cows rustled in Jos, Plateau state capital, on Saturday.

The incident occurred a week after not less than 1oo persons lost their lives in multiple attacks staged by suspected herdsmen in the state.

Terna Tyopev, spokesman for the Plateau police command, said the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at Kangan community of Jos south local government area.

He identified the victim as Adamu Dung, a 46-year-old vigilante.

According to Tyopev, the cows belonged to Benjamin Kwashe, Anglican archbishop of Jos.

“Today, at about 7am, we received information that nine cattle, belonging to the Anglican Archbishop of Jos were rustled by men suspected to be herdsmen,” Tyopev said.

“In the process, one Adamu Dung, 46, vigilante in the area was shot and killed by the rustlers.

Tyopev said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the Bingham University Hospital, Jos.

He also said the command had commenced an investigation into the matter with a view to arresting the suspects for prosecution.
