An angry mob on Wednesday attacked a checkpoint of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) located at Babban Mutum village in Babura local government area of Jigawa state.

The mob attacked some customs officers at the checkpoint after Umaru Babban Mutum, a 60-year-old man, was reportedly shot dead.

Mutum was said to have been involved in an argument with the officials over his car that was impounded.

He reportedly got shot in the stomach after he challenged the officials for shooting and injuring his driver.

Mahmud Babban Mutum, a witness, said the 60-year-old man died instantly.

This angered the people who burnt down five custom checkpoints in the area. Four vehicles belonging to customs officials were also burnt.

The mob also attempted to set ablaze a police station in the area but Mohammed Ibrahim, chairman of the local government, convinced them not to do so.
