Troops of Operation MESA under the 3 Brigade, Nigerian army, have rescued seven kidnapped victims during a late-night operation in Tsanyawa LGA of Kano state.
In a statement on Sunday, Babatunde Zubairu, assistant director, army public relations, said the operation was triggered by a distress call from Yankamaye Cikin Gari at about 11 pm on November 29, after bandits invaded the community.
Zubairu said soldiers alongside the Nigerian air force and the police moved quickly to the area, confronted the attackers and freed seven abductees. However, a 60-year-old woman was killed by the bandits before security forces arrived.
According to Zubairu, troops continued to chase the fleeing gunmen along their escape route toward Rimaye, engaging them with sustained gunfire to prevent further abductions.
