The federal government has approved the reopening of Osubi airport in Warri for daylight operations.

The Osubi airport was closed in February 2020, following controversy involving aviation service providers and management of the airport, over alleged debt and mismanagement.

Recently, the house of representatives urged the federal government through the ministry of aviation and relevant authorities to reopen Warri airport for full flight operations, following a motion moved by  Oberuakpefe Afe, a lawmaker representing Okpe/Sapeie/vaie federal constituency.

However, Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, in a tweet on Monday, announced the reopening of the airport, noting that all procedures, including COVID-19 protocol will be strictly observed.

“I have just approved the reopening of Osubi Airport Warri, for daylight operations in VFR conditions, subject to all procedures, practices and protocols, including COVID-19, strictly being observed. There will not be need for local approvals henceforth,” he said.
