Divine Oduduru failed to qualify for the Rio Olympic 200 metres final, crashing out of the race after finishing seventh in the semi-final heat.

Oduduru showed enormous potential in the heats, with a personal best of 20: 34 seconds in the semi-final, coming second behind world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt.

The performance of the I-never-expected-it runner at the heat raised the expectations of Nigerians for at least a shot at a medal in the finals. But running a time of 20:59 seconds, Oduduru bows out of the 200 metres race.

Oduduru ran alongside Usain Bolt (Jamaica) who finished first, Canadian Andre Gasse (2nd) and British Adam Gemili (3rd).
