Francisca Ordega, Super Falcons winger, says every member of the team is determined to lift the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

The 31-year-old winger spoke in a chat with the BBC on Wednesday.

The Super Falcons are the most successful team in the competition, with nine titles. However, the last time the country won the competition was in 2018 in Ghana.

Nigeria finished a disappointing fourth at the 2022 WAFCON after losing to Morocco in the semi-final and Zambia in the third-placed match.

The Falcons will be hoping to win the competition for the 10th time at the upcoming edition, which takes place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.

Speaking on the team’s chances, Ordega, who had won four WAFCON titles, said the team is filled with new stars that have never won the trophy before and are “eager to make a name for themselves”.

“Everyone wants this title back,” she said.

“Most of these girls have not played (WAFCON) before, and I think they really want to win. Everybody wants to make a name for themselves.”

The Super Falcons are in group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana and Algeria.

They play their first game against Tunisia on Sunday at 5 pm.
