Ose Anenih has resigned as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

Anenih, son of the late Tony Anenih, former chairman of the PDP board of trustees, served as the party’s director of research and strategy during the September 21, 2024, Edo governorship election.

In a letter addressed to the ward chairman of Arue Ward 3 in Uromi, Edo state, Anenih said the decision came after “much reflection”.

“This decision was not made lightly,” he said.

“From the very beginning, I have stood with the PDP through its triumphs and its trials, bound by a belief in the promise of Nigerian democracy and in the ideals that first drew me to the Umbrella.

“Along this journey, I have been fortunate to build enduring friendships, gain valuable lessons, and serve in ways that shaped both my politics and my person. For these, I remain profoundly grateful.”

Anenih said he was stepping back from partisan politics to prioritise his family and attend to other pressing responsibilities.

“At this point in my life, however, I must step back from the arena of partisan politics,” he said.

“My duty now lies first with my family and with other responsibilities that demand my full attention.”

He added that his dedication to Nigeria’s development remains “unshaken”.

“I will continue to contribute to intellectual and civic conversations that seek to improve governance and, above all, the lives of the governed,” he added.

“Ideas, policy, and principled debate remain essential tools for shaping our nation’s future, and I look forward to playing my part in that work.”

He expressed appreciation to the party and its members across levels for their “support, goodwill, and camaraderie” over the years.

“I wish the party well, and I remain hopeful for a Nigeria that truly fulfils its promise to all her citizens,” he said.

In April, Anenih said PDP governors “do not have the balls” to take on Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

He was reacting to the PDP governors’ forum declaration that it would not join any merger or coalition against the president ahead of the polls.
