Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives and Timipre Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa say Godwin Obaseki, the Edo state governor-elect, won the governorship election because of Adam Oshiomhole’s performance as governor of the state.

In separate statements on Friday, the duo congratulated Obaseki, saying it is the Edo people who are winners of the election.

“The APC victory in Edo State is a telling challenge for politicians and leaders, as  it has shown that the Nigerian voting population is now more aware than ever of the fact that delivering the dividends of democracy to those we lead guarantees that our party will always be favoured,” the statement by Turaki Hassan, the speaker’s spokesman, said.

“Governor Oshiomhole has done very well in Edo State and it is safe to say that the APC’s victory was largely predicated upon his  record of performance in the state.

“Godwin Obaseki is a renowned technocrat and I believe strongly that his vast knowledge and wealth of experience will translate to efficient and effective management of the affairs of Edo state. I would also like to thank the people of Edo state for placing their trust in our great party and choosing APC once again.”

Meanwhile, Doifie Buokoribo said on Sylva’s behalf: “We send our congratulations to you, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on your victory at the poll. This feat has done our great party, APC, and the people of the South-South proud. It is a cheery reaffirmation of the place of the South-South in the national change movement.

“Special congratulations also go to the governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for staying the course, despite visible adversity, in a worthy cause to deliver a worthy successor to the people of Edo State. You have given Edo people a worthy replacement who would not only continue your lofty ideals but would consistently push the envelope of social and economic progress for the greatest good of the people.

“We salute the entire people of Edo State, who are the ultimate winners of this election, as they prepare to enter yet another season of progress. We wish the people of Edo State, the governor, and the incoming governor a prosperous tenure.”
