Osimhen, Iheanacho, Ugochukwu… TheCable’s team of the week
After a wonderful weekend of football and some outstanding performances from Nigerian players across the globe, TheCable picks its team of the week.
Maduka Okoye – Sparta Rotherdam
Deserves the honour for his incredible saves and awareness during Sparta 3-0 win over Vitesse. Heroic.
Kevin Akpoguma – Hoffenheim
Did a fine job blocking any real danger from Schalke. Made a couple of crucial tackles but generally enjoyed a comfortable game thanks to his awareness. Also got a goal. Intelligent.
Chidozie Awaziem – Boavista
As ever a tower of strength who gave nothing away, and like Gordon Gecko greedily blocked any problems solidly and quickly. Even found the time to start a couple of attacks and ventured up field positively on several other occasions. Concrete.
Jamilu Collins – Paderborn
Dominated the backline, won everything in the air, leaving the oppositions screaming like frightened guinea pigs. He also helped build attacks. Subjugator.
Moses Simon – Nantes
The livewire Nigerian was a menace against Bordeaux. Also made a handful of tackles, several key passes and provided an assist. Troublesome.
Blessing Olabiran – Olimpik Doneskt
Olabiran completely ruled the flank and negated almost their every move. Showed he meant business with an assist. Dominating.
Lesley Ugochukwu – Stade Rennes
Is there no stopping for the Nigerian? He had an exceptional game against PSG. Terrific.
John Obi Mikel – Stoke City
Another great game from the midfielder with the quicksilver feet who stood up to anything and also pushed forward and developed play. Composed.
Kelechi Iheanacho – Leicester City
Iheanacho gave another top performance with a goal despite Leicester City loss to Newcastle. Anticipatory.
Chidera Ejuke – CSKA Moscow
A sparkling display as Ejuke put the hosts in front. Magnificent.
Victor Osimhen – Napoli
He was a constant danger for Spezia and scored beautiful goals for Napoli. Continued to hassle and also contributed to the last goal. Stupendous.
