Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles forward, has won the 2019/20 Marc Vivien Foe prize — an annual award in France recognising the best African player in Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old talented footballer was named winner of this year’s prize on Monday, less than a month after he was voted Lille’s player of the season following his impressive performance for the French club.

The former Vfl Wolfsburg player gathered 284 points to see off competition from other African nominees for the gong.

Osimhen was picked ahead of his compatriot Moses Simon, Habib Diallo of Metz, Idrissa Gueye of Paris Saint Germain, Islam Slimani of Monaco, and Yunis Abdelhamid of Reims.

Others are Saint-Denis Bouanga of Saint-Etienne, Andy Delort of Montpellier and Rennes trio of Mbaye Niang, Hamari Traore, and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The win makes him the second Nigerian player after Vincent Enyeama (2014) to claim the annual award by RFI and France 24.

Osimhen was superb for Lille since joining the Christophe Galtier side, helping them to finish fourth on the table while scoring 18 goals and six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

The annual award is named after Marc-Vivien Foe, the late Cameroon and Olympique Lyonnais midfielder — twice an Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Indomitable Lions — who passed away on the field during the 2003 Confederations Cup.
