Osinbajo holds top security meetings at Aso Rock

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo held two separate meetings at the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday over the recent vandalisation of pipelines in the Niger Delta.

Last week, oil installations belonging to Chevron and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), were attacked in the Warri south-west local government area of Delta state.

A group identified as the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) claimed responsibility for the attacks, threatening to carry out more attacks soon.

However, security chiefs, representatives of oil firms, traditional rulers, Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state, petroleum resources, and Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state, were among those who attended the meeting.

The first meeting held with the security personnel and government officials started around 4pm, while the second one started two hours later, and lasted far into the night.

Dickson and Alfred Diete-Spiff, the Amayanabo of Toun Brass, Bayelsa state, alongside representatives of Shell, Total, AGIP, NLNG and some other oil companies were those in attendance.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who was in Katsina, his home state, at the time the meetings were holding, has directed security agencies to crackdown on vandals.
